Hello Eastside Families!

Dear Eastside Families,
My name is Amelia Edd, and I’m thrilled to be joining Eastside School as your new principal! This school year marks the beginning of my twenty-first year in the Coos Bay School District. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of serving as a classroom teacher, Intervention Specialist, K–2 Instructional Literacy Coach, and most recently, as the on-site administrator at Madison Elementary.
At Eastside, my goal is to continue strengthening our students’ reading and writing skills across all content areas. I believe that academic success begins with a school environment where every student feels safe, supported, and inspired to do their best.
I’m excited to get to know each student—learning their names, celebrating their strengths, and understanding their individual needs. Together, we’ll build a community where every child can thrive.
Go Panthers!
With gratitude,
Amelia Edd
Principal, Eastside School

We’re kicking off the school year with some fun and skill-building activities during recess and PE!
🎯 Recess Games
This month, students will enjoy:
  • Bean Bag Toss into buckets under the overhang
  • Hopscotch – a great way to build coordination and balance
🏃‍♂️ PE Focus by Grade Level
  • 2nd Grade: Students are learning how to set up gym activities and properly lay out and fold their mats—important skills for independence and responsibility.
  • 1st Grade & Kindergarten: Our focus is on developing manipulation skills (such as tossing, catching, and rolling) and locomotion skills (including hopping, skipping, and running) to establish a strong movement foundation.
We’re excited to see our Panthers grow stronger, more confident, and have fun while learning!

Respect definition

Social Emotional Learning

This month, our Character Strong character trait is Respect. We are teaching students what respect means and how it can make our school a better place.

Attendance Matters

Many of our youngest students miss 10 percent of the school year—about 17 days a year or just two days every month. Chronic absenteeism in kindergarten, and even preK, can predict lower test scores, poor attendance, and retention in later grades, especially if the problem persists for more than a year.
