Dear Families of the Coos Bay School District,
Just a few minutes ago I received an update from the Oregon Department of Education (ODE). As they have studied school districts and noted that, as long as they are following the guidelines and practicing safety protocols, there has been limited to no spread of the virus within the schools. This has certainly been the case here in our district. We have had cases impact our schools, but we have taken appropriate and effective measures to limit the spread of the virus.
Based on this information, ODE is extending the “safe harbor” clause which allows schools to operate under our current instructional models. This means that we will come back from break in our current instructional model of K-3 in-person hybrid and 4-12 Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL).
I realize that we have sent out several communications in the past week or so and the information has changed. However, I feel it is important that everyone know this updated information now so that staff and families are not spending Winter Break trying to figure out what to do come January. This latest information allows us to carry on with our current models and no adjustments needed. That includes January 4th now becoming a regularly scheduled school day for all grades.
For the safety of our students and staff we will continue to monitor cases as they impact our schools and take appropriate safety precautions. I will continue to keep you posted on any and all updates as they come in. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
