Updated Information (Updated 12/15/2020)
Dear Families of the Coos Bay School District,
If 2020 has shown us anything, it has taught us that information changes quickly in this current situation.
Based on new information from the Oregon Department of Education, January 4 will be a non-school day K-7th Grade students. 8th - 12th grade will resume their normal Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL) schedule on January 4. This will allow us the opportunity to see the latest metrics on Monday afternoon before we move our K-3 students into Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL). I want to be clear that our current plan, due to the latest metrics being in the Red zone, is to move to CDL after the break and we are asking our K-3 families to be prepared to start CDL on January 5. However, if we drop back into the Orange Zone by January 4, we could maintain our K-3 hybrid in-person model.
Monday, January 4 - No School KG - 7th Grade
Monday, January 4 - Normal CDL Schedule for 8th - 12th Grade
I want to have the most up-to-date information before transiting our K-3 grade into CDL. I also want you to know that I am closely monitoring cases that impact our schools and I take the safety of our staff and students very seriously when making these decisions. I will continue to keep you posted on any and all updates as they come in. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
Sincerely,
Bryan Trendell

Dear Families of Coos Bay School District,
In response to the increased COVID-19 cases in Coos County, Coos Bay School District grades K-3 will remain open in our current hybrid (in person) model through December 17th in order to allow families time to prepare for a shift to Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL). Starting January 4th we will shift grades K-3 to a CDL model. This will continue until our County case number drops into the yellow ( Medium risk) category.
Prior to winter break, schools will be communicating with K-3 families further details regarding the CDL model. Our 4th-12th grade will continue with their current model of CDL and “limited in-person” instruction.
I truly appreciate our community and our efforts to follow ODE and OHA guidance regarding face coverings, social distancing, and frequent hand washing. Together we can slow the spread of the virus, bring our case numbers down to allow our kids back in school, and help keep our community safe. We will continue to work with Coos Health & Wellness when making decisions about re-opening our schools in 2021.
If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your school or the district office.
Sincerely,
Bryan Trendell
